Using NetGrammar
Getting Started

There are five selections on the opening screen: Table of Contents, Introduction, Support, Units and Tasks. If you are opening NetGrammar for the first time, select the "Introduction" option. Once you are familiar with NetGrammar you may wish to enter using other selections.

Navigating NetGrammar

The navigation bar, at the top of pages, provides location cues and offers several ways to navigate the website. As shown below, the title and page name appear at the top left and center of the menubar. The current page number as well as the total number of pages appear at the bottom right of the menubar. The Table of Contents (ToC) covers the entire elements in the web site. The selected menu is always highlighted in yellow as you can see in the graphic below.

The navigation bar, at the bottom of pages, provides also location cues and offers several ways to navigate the website as shown below. Use the up arrow to move up to the top of the page. You may scroll down the page to look at this navigation bar at the bottom of this page.

Navigating with Page Arrows

Pages are organized in a logical sequence from the first to the last page. Use the forward and back arrow in the bottom right of the menubar to move through the logical sequence of pages. Use the menu icon to move up through menus levels.

Navigating with Pull-down Menu

Use the pull-down menu to move forward and backwards within the menu level content you are in ( i.e. Introduction, Support, Units, Tasks). Once you select an option, it will take you to that specific section in the menu level. This is the easiest way to jump to the Entry page, too.

Glossary Words

Glossary items (words or terms) that appear in the text body are underlined. You may click the underlined glossary item to see the definition. While viewing a glossary definition, you may click "Full Glossary" at the top of the top left of the definition window and view the entire glossary.

NetGrammar Structure

The first two levels in NetGrammar include several features (shown below) that will orient you to the structure, contents and objectives.

Technical Requirements
Hardware and Software Requirements

NetGrammar is designed for viewing through the Internet using a javascript capable World Wide Web browser (1995 or later). Some features of NetGrammar, including "Unit Listening," offer the option to listen to audio while viewing synchronous graphics. To view these multimedia presentations you need the Real G2 player that you can download from Real Networks.

A Set of Speakers

Any speaker will work, but a good pair of multimedia speakers will sound much better than a single small internal speaker.

A 28.8 Kps Modem or Better

The faster the modem, the better the sound. We recommend at least a 28.8 Kps modem. This will give you fairly good sound. A 56.6 Kps modem will sound even better.

A Version 3 Browser or Later

Netscape Navigator 3.0, Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0, AOL 3.0 are okay, but Netscape Communicator 4.0, or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 are recommended.

The Real Audio Player

Any Real Audio player will actually work, but we strongly recommend the G2 Player. This is the latest version, and provides much clearer sound than earlier versions of the player. There are two Real Audio players: the G2 Real Player is free; the G2 Real Player Plus is not free. The Real Player Plus is a little better, but the free Real Player is good enough. Save money and download the Real Player.
